The most popular attraction of ALL the Hawaiian Islands is Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, about a 45-minute drive. At the time of this writing, Halema'uma'u Crater Lake is active and viewable from a safe distance of a few football fields. (125 million gallon lake of liquid lava! )
The Big Island has 17 distinct climate zones which includes snow on Mauna Kea (mountain height 1400 ft), tropical jungle with wild mangoes and coconuts, tropical rainforests with rare flora and fauna (no snakes!)...Black sand beaches are on the East side. White sand beaches are on the West side.
Explore the still-steaming but safe FISSURE 8 LAVA CONE, (2 minute ride by car, 4 minute climb, 180 ft high), which arose from the 2018 Volcanic Eruption.
Nearby historic Pahoa and Hilo are 5 and 20 minutes away, respectively. Both have health food stores and great restaurants that include Thai, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian and local Hawaiian cuisine which includes the "Catch of the Day."
